Jobscan Alternatives in 2026, Including the Free Ones

Checked against Jobscan’s live site July 2, 2026.

If you are looking for a Jobscan alternative, you have usually already worked out the problem: the free tier runs out at five scans a month, and unlimited scanning starts at $49.95. Here is what else does the job, what each costs, and who each one suits.

PrepVault is one of the options below and we build it, so read this as our list rather than a neutral review. Every price is dated and linked to the page we checked it on.

The short answer

If ATS keyword matching is the only problem you have and you want the deepest engine, stay on Jobscan. Its keyword-synonym detection has had over a decade to mature and nothing on this list beats it on depth.

If the price is the problem, PrepVault scores resumes free and unlimited with no account, and Simplify has free resume-to-job-description scoring. If the resume was never the only problem, and you also need somewhere to track applications and something to prep you for the interview, that is what PrepVault is for.

What Jobscan is, and who it is actually for

Jobscan is a single-purpose tool: paste a resume and a job description, get an ATS match score, a keyword gap list, and formatting checks. It has been doing this since 2014 and its keyword-synonym matching is the most established in the category, catching variations a simpler matcher misses, recognizing "led a team" as a match for "team leadership," for instance.

It is for people whose resume is the bottleneck and who know it. If you are getting rejected before a human reads anything, and you already track applications somewhere else, a dedicated tool built around exactly that problem for over a decade is a reasonable place to spend money.

What it is not: a tracker, a prep tool, or anything that helps after the scan. That is the boundary, and it is where most people looking for an alternative are standing.

Why people look for a Jobscan alternative

The scan cap. The free tier is permanent but stops at 5 scans a month, which one afternoon of applying uses up. Checked July 2, 2026 on Jobscan’s plan page.

The partial free result. On the free tier the full keyword report, the soft skills analysis, and the formatting check are locked behind a paid plan, so the free scan tells you a score without telling you what to fix.

The price of unlimited. $49.95 a month, or $89.95 billed quarterly, about $29.98 a month effective. That is a real number for someone between jobs, and it is the most common reason to go looking.

Scope. It scans resumes. It does not track your applications, remind you to follow up, or prep you for the interview the resume gets you, so it is one line item in a job search that has several.

The alternatives

  • Simplify Free resume builder and resume-to-JD scoring. Simplify+ is $39.99/month, $19.99/week, or $89.99 per 3 months

The closest thing to a free replacement for the scanning half. Its resume-to-job-description scoring costs nothing, and the free autofill across 100+ boards is the part people stay for. Weakest on scanning depth: this is not a keyword engine on Jobscan’s level. Checked July 2, 2026. Alternatives to Simplify

  • Teal Free plan includes 10 resume templates and top-5 keyword matches per job. Teal+ is $29/month, $13/week, or $79/quarter

People who want to rewrite the resume rather than score it. The builder is the most mature part and the $13 weekly plan fits a two-week sprint. The free plan caps keyword matches at the top five per job, so it is a lighter read than a full scan. Checked July 1, 2026. Alternatives to Teal

  • PrepVault (ours) Resume checker free and unlimited with no account. Core $9.99/month, Pro $19.99/month

People who want an honest ATS read without a scan counter, or who need the tracker and the interview prep on the other side of the resume. Our scanner is younger and structurally simpler than Jobscan’s, and we say so in the FAQ below. Checked July 2, 2026.

Where PrepVault does not fit, and Jobscan still wins

Keyword-matching depth. Jobscan’s scanning engine has had over a decade to mature, and its AI keyword synonym detection catches variations a simpler matcher misses. If ATS keyword optimization is the entire problem, Jobscan’s engine is more thorough than ours today.

LinkedIn optimization. Jobscan scores and optimizes your LinkedIn profile against a target role. We do not have an equivalent and are not building one.

Single-purpose focus. If you already track applications elsewhere and only want the sharpest possible resume-to-JD match, the extra things PrepVault does are not worth switching for.

Where PrepVault fits

No scan limit, ever. PrepVault’s checker is unlimited and shows the complete report, grade, score, every fix, with no signup wall, on the free tier, forever. It runs in your browser, so there is no per-scan cost to pass on.

One tool instead of three. Jobscan only scans resumes. PrepVault tracks your pipeline, fills applications, and preps you for interviews in the same place your resume lives, so the score connects to what you do next instead of ending at a percentage.

Price, if you need more than scanning. Jobscan Monthly is $49.95 and Quarterly works out to about $29.98 a month for scanning alone. PrepVault Pro is $19.99 a month and includes the AI resume optimizer plus the AI prep plan and company research.

The context profile. Our AI resume optimizer and prep plans read your accumulated notes, saved answers, and stage history, not just the resume and job description you hand it fresh each time.

Behavioral prep doesn’t assume your field: there’s a core set that works anywhere, with role-tagged depth on top of it, free on every tier. Technical depth is deepest in engineering.

FAQ

What is the best free Jobscan alternative?

For scanning alone, PrepVault’s resume checker is the only one on this list with no cap and no account: it runs in your browser and shows the full report on the free tier. Simplify’s resume-to-job-description scoring is also free, bundled with free autofill across 100+ boards. Teal’s free plan gives you the top-5 keyword matches per job, which is a lighter read.

None of the three matches Jobscan’s keyword-synonym depth. If that depth is what you are paying for, the honest answer is that the free alternatives are not a like-for-like swap.

Is Jobscan free?

Jobscan has a permanent free tier: 5 resume scans a month, no credit card required. The catch is the free scan shows a partial result, and the full keyword report, soft skills analysis, and formatting check are locked behind a paid plan. Unlimited scans and the full feature set cost $49.95 a month, or $89.95 billed quarterly, about $29.98 a month effective, as of July 2026.

Is PrepVault’s resume checker really unlimited?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no upload and no API call, so there is no per-scan cost and no cap. Anyone can drop in a resume at prepvault.io/resume-checker and get the full grade, score, and fix list with no account and no scan limit, on any tier including no tier at all.

Which has the better ATS keyword matcher, PrepVault or Jobscan?

Jobscan, on depth, at least for now. Its keyword-synonym detection has had over a decade to mature and is the most established engine in the category. PrepVault’s checker and in-app JD match are newer and structurally simpler, though they are free and unlimited where Jobscan’s deepest matching sits behind a $49.95-a-month plan.

Which Jobscan alternative is cheapest if I want more than scanning?

PrepVault Pro at $19.99 a month, which includes the AI resume optimizer plus prep plans and company research. Jobscan’s cheapest route to unlimited scans is about $29.98 a month on the quarterly plan and stops at the resume. Teal+ is $29 a month and is stronger on the builder. Simplify+ is $39.99 a month and is strongest on autofill.

If all you want is unlimited scans and nothing else, PrepVault’s free tier already has no scan limit for the core checker.

Score a resume right now, free, no account

The closest free replacement for what Jobscan’s free tier gives you, without the five-a-month counter. Paste or upload a resume and get the grade, the score, the dimension breakdown, and every fix ranked. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no scan limit to hit.

It will not match Jobscan’s keyword-synonym depth. It will tell you whether the file parses, whether the sections are there, and what to fix first, which is most of what a failed scan is actually about.
