Simplify Alternatives in 2026, and When Auto-Apply Backfires

Checked against Simplify’s live site July 2, 2026.

Simplify Copilot is free forever for the parts most people use, so the usual reason to look for an alternative is not price. It is that the fill is where it stops: no interview prep, no search metrics, and the AI extras sit behind Simplify+.

PrepVault is one of the options below and we build it, so read this as our list rather than a neutral review. Every price is dated and linked to the page we checked it on.

The short answer

If autofill breadth is what you want, stay. Simplify’s is free on every plan, unlimited, and covers more ATS platforms than anything else here, and no alternative on this page beats free.

Huntr is the closest swap if you want CRM-style contact tracking with your autofill. Teal is the pick if documents are the real bottleneck. PrepVault is the pick if the fill is not the hard part and the interview is.

What Simplify is, and who it is actually for

Simplify Copilot is a Chrome extension built around one strong feature: autofilling job applications. It is free forever, unlimited, and works on 100+ boards and ATS platforms, including Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Taleo, Avature, Lever, and SmartRecruiters. It also tracks what you submit, matches you to curated job lists, and has a basic resume builder. Simplify+ adds AI-tailored resumes, AI cover letters, and networking suggestions.

It is for people applying in volume, especially students and new grads, who want the form-filling to cost nothing. On that specific job it is the strongest free option in this comparison and we do not have an answer to it.

It is a weaker fit once the applications start turning into interviews, because that is outside what Copilot is built for.

Why people look for a Simplify alternative, and what auto-apply really means

First, the thing people search for: Simplify does not auto-apply, and neither does Huntr or PrepVault. All three fill the form from your profile, show you the fields, and leave the submit button to you. If you came here looking for a tool that applies on your behalf, none of these is it.

That matters because the failure mode of filling fast is mechanical, not mysterious. A fill tool writes what is in your profile, so a stale profile gets sent 40 times before you notice. Screening answers generated fresh from each job description are not the answers you gave the last three companies, and nothing checks them against each other. The review step exists for a reason and volume is what makes people stop using it.

The reasons to actually leave: everything after the application is somewhere else. Copilot is not built for interview prep, it does not list search metrics, and the AI screening answers and tailored resumes need Simplify+ at $39.99 a month, $19.99 a week, or $89.99 per 3 months, checked July 2, 2026.

And the AI starts cold. Each feature reads the job description you are on, fresh, so it never draws on what you have already written elsewhere in your own search.

The alternatives

  • Huntr Free for up to 100 tracked jobs, with unlimited autofill on the free plan. Pro is $40/month, $90/quarter, or $160/6 months

People who want free autofill plus real contact tracking: unlimited contacts with event logging, which is the most CRM-like on this page. Its board list is narrower than Simplify’s and free tracking stops at 100 jobs. Pro is the most expensive plan named here. Checked July 1, 2026. Alternatives to Huntr

  • Teal Free plan tracks unlimited jobs with 10 resume templates. Teal+ is $29/month, $13/week, or $79/quarter

People whose real bottleneck is the resume rather than the form. The most mature builder on this page, with unlimited free tracking. It has no autofill at all, so leaving Simplify for Teal means giving up the thing Simplify is best at. Checked July 1, 2026. Alternatives to Teal

  • PrepVault (ours) Free unlimited tracking with prep tools on every job. Core $9.99/month, Pro $19.99/month

People whose applications are already landing interviews and stalling there. Screening answers come from an answer vault you wrote yourself rather than being generated per job. Our autofill covers six hosts against Simplify’s 100+ and needs the $9.99 plan, so on the fill alone this is a downgrade. Checked July 2, 2026.

Where PrepVault does not fit, and Simplify still wins

Autofill, on every axis that matters. Simplify’s autofill is free on every plan, unlimited, and covers 100+ boards and ATS platforms including iCIMS, Taleo, and Avature, which PrepVault does not support. PrepVault’s autofill needs Core at $9.99 a month and covers six named hosts. If autofill breadth is the main thing you want, Simplify gives you more of it for nothing.

Job discovery. Simplify’s curated job lists and matching are a real feature we do not have. It is a strong pick for students and new grads who want help finding roles, not just tracking ones they have already found.

Zero-friction free tier. Everything that makes Copilot useful, autofill, tracking, job matching, is free forever by Simplify’s own commitment. There is no tier where the core loop is gated.

Where PrepVault fits

The context profile. Simplify’s AI reads the job description you are on and generates an answer fresh each time. PrepVault accumulates your notes, stage changes, saved answers, and practice results, and every prep plan reads that history, so output gets more specific to you the longer your search runs.

The prep layer. Simplify Copilot is built for the application, not the interview. PrepVault’s full interview question database, flashcards, and say-it-out-loud practice with a timer and transcript are free, with AI prep plans, company research, and AI-graded practice on paid tiers. If autofill gets you the interview, this is what happens next.

Screening answers from your own words. PrepVault’s answer vault matches free-text screening questions against answers you have already saved, deterministic and with no AI call, so the same question gets the same answer at the fortieth company as at the first. Simplify’s equivalent is Simplify+ only and generates from the job description each time.

Search metrics. PrepVault tracks response rate, stage conversion, and pipeline health for free. Simplify does not list an equivalent.

Behavioral prep doesn’t assume your field: there’s a core set that works anywhere, with role-tagged depth on top of it, free on every tier. Technical depth is deepest in engineering, which is still broader than the internship and new-grad tech roles Simplify’s marketing leans toward.

FAQ

Does Simplify auto-apply to jobs?

No. Simplify Copilot fills the application form from your profile and you review the fields and click submit yourself. Huntr and PrepVault work the same way. None of the tools on this page sends an application on your behalf.

The practical risk of filling at volume is not the tool applying without you. It is that a stale profile, or a screening answer generated fresh for each job, goes out dozens of times before anyone reads it back.

Is Simplify Copilot free?

Yes, and unlimited. Simplify’s stated commitment is to keep autofill, application tracking, job matching, and its basic resume builder free forever, with no cap on applications submitted through Copilot. Simplify+ at $19.99 a week, $39.99 a month, or $89.99 per 3 months as of July 2026 adds AI-tailored resumes, AI cover letters, and networking suggestions on top of the free base.

What is the best free Simplify alternative?

Huntr, if autofill is what you would miss: free and unlimited on its free plan, though tracking stops at 100 jobs and the ATS list is narrower than Simplify’s.

PrepVault’s free tier tracks unlimited applications with the interview question database, flashcards, and out-loud practice open on every one, and the resume checker is free with no account. Its autofill is the part that needs a paid plan, so it is not a like-for-like swap.

What does PrepVault have that Simplify doesn’t?

A context profile and a real prep layer. PrepVault’s AI reads your accumulated notes, stage changes, saved answers, and quiz results, so prep plans get more specific the longer your search runs; Simplify’s AI reads the job description you are on, fresh, each time.

And PrepVault has a full interview question database, flashcards, and out-loud practice free, plus AI prep plans and company research on paid tiers. Simplify Copilot does not have an equivalent prep layer built in.

Which is cheapest?

Simplify, if all you want is autofill and tracking: that part is free and ungated. If you want an AI layer, Simplify+ is $39.99 a month, or about $29.99 a month on the 3-month rate, and PrepVault Pro is $19.99 a month and includes prep plans and company research on top of the resume tools. Teal+ sits between them at $29 a month.
